I'm making this quilt for my littlest sister, who is 2 months pregnant. Way too early to know if it's a boy or girl, but I'm taking a gamble and making a boy quilt. She can only have it if she has a boy...
It's a very different approach in piecing than I usually take and I've really enjoyed it. This picture doesn't do it justice. I started with the darkest color in the center of the block and worked my way outward in a wonky log cabin fashion with lighter and lighter colors.
I've decided against adding a border and I'm thinking of quilting it with straight lines, maybe slightly diagonal... Not sure yet.
I can't quilt it yet because I don't have the backing ready and I don't have a walking foot yet for my new machine. Hopefully when I get the backing ready, I'll have the right foot.
Anybody have advice on how to quilt this other than what I mentioned above? I'm not solid with my free-motion yet, so I don't want to do something this big without my walking foot. What thread would you use?
I'm going to try to finish it in time to enter it in the contest at the Modern Quilt Guild. I have a couple of months to go, though.

Might be kind of fun to stitch in the ditch in concentric wonky squares/rectangles... I like it by the way!
how about quilting it in a square spiral (you know what I mean!?!) echoing the wonky blocks to enhance the depth effect?
I love this quilt. The solids look great and the squares have the perfect amount of "wonk" to them. Your sister is going to love it! I like the stitch in the ditch idea too but I'm sure anything you do will look great.
The color selections make a neat depth effect. It's unique, and will make mom happy, whether boy or girl. I don't have a suggestion about quilting it, though.
